Scope of License: (Type of work this license allows you to perform)
A "plumbing contractor" means a contractor whose contracting business consists of the execution of contracts requiring the experience, financial means, knowledge, and skill to install, maintain, repair, alter, extend, or, when not prohibited by law, design plumbing. A plumbing contractor may install, maintain, repair, alter, extend, or design the following without obtaining any additional local regulatory license, certificate, or registration:
- sanitary drainage or storm drainage facilities;
- venting systems; public or private water supply systems;
- septic tanks; drainage and supply wells;
- swimming pool piping;
- irrigation systems; or
- solar heating water systems and all appurtenances, apparatus, or equipment used in connection with these, including boilers and pressure process piping and including the installation of water, natural gas, and storm and sanitary sewer lines; and water and sewer plants and substations;
- the design and installation, maintenance, repair, alteration, or extension of air-piping, vacuum line piping, oxygen line piping, nitrous oxide piping, and all related medical gas systems;
- fire line standpipes and fire sprinklers to the extent authorized by law; ink and chemical lines;
- fuel oil and gasoline piping and tank and pump installation, except bulk storage plants; and
- pneumatic control piping systems.

Once you have passed both the Business & Finance and Trade Knowledge exam, you will be required to submit an application to the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR) along with the required documentation as stated on the application. Method of Qualification:
A person will qualify for a certified license by meeting one of the following requirements:
- Four year construction-related degree from an accredited college (equivalent to three years experience) and one year proven experience applicable to the category for which you are applying.
- One year experience as a foreman and not less than three years of credits from accredited college-level courses.
- One year experience as a worker, one year experience as a foreman, and two years of credits from accredited college-level courses.
- Two years experience as a worker, one year experience as a foreman, and one year of credits from accredited college-level courses.
- Four years experience as a worker or foreman of which at least one year must have been as a foreman.
MILITARY VETERANS: A veteran will qualify for a certified license by meeting one of the following:
- Three years of military service and one year experience as a foreman applicable to the category for which you are applying.
- Two years of military service, one year experience as a foreman, and one year experience as a worker or foreman applicable to the category for which you are applying.
- One year of military service, one year experience as a foreman, and two years experience as a worker or foreman applicable to the category for which you are applying.
NOTE: You do not have to have the necessary experience before you take the exam.
- The test scores are valid for 4 years meaning you have 4 years to gain the required experience after passing the state exam.
- Three years of any accredited college credits can be used in place of construction experience regardless of the subject matter/courses.
